Over 50 people attended The 10% Event: Save energy, Save Money in Droylsden on 19th January – organised by MERCi and Tameside 3rd Sector Coalition (T3SC). They heard speakers, participated in workshops and there was a quiz on energy efficiency. The stalls had plenty of information to take back to the office.
Pete Abel and Jonathan Atkinson from the Urban Research Collective kicked off the day with a presentation on “the big picture” and what is being done in the region. Manchester City Council has set a target of a 41% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2020 for the whole of the city, including homes, businesses, transport, the third sector, etc.
There were three workshops: the Sustaining Change team at MERCi held one on how to motivate your colleagues and landlord when implementing energy saving decisions; the Energy Saving Trust looked at renewable energy; and the energy team at Tameside MBC focused on how to save 10% of your energy consumption. GMCVO then offered their insights into how they are getting to grips with energy savings and involving staff in the process.
One participant said of the event ' Very informative, friendly, good nourishing food, new ideas, fun!'
