From Consumerism to Sustainability: Free Lecture and Book Launch

How can a culture of consumerism be transformed into a culture of sustainability? How does sustainable thinking become as natural as consumerist thinking currently feels to many of us? Join Erik Assadourian from the US-based environmental think tank Worldwatch Institute for a discussion on the importance of rethinking the very foundations of modern consumerism, rather than just relying on technological fixes. Hear examples of how sustainability pioneers are already harnessing key institutions to shape a culture of sustainability and share your own experiences with this process. The lecture will be based on the 2010 edition of State of the World, which will be available for sale at the event.

Date: Thursday 4th February 2010. Time: 5pm – 6.30pm
Location: St Thomas Centre, Ardwick, Manchester
