Simon McCloskey - Development Worker - Herbie

Simon's role is Development Worker for the Herbie project. Herbie was set up to provide access to fresh fruit and vegetables for residents of North and East Manchester in areas where there is currently little provision of fresh produce. The project has 2 vans which are walk-on shops and deliveries are made to housing estates, sheltered housing, churches, schools and creches. Simon's role is to promote and develop the project, working in partnership with other local food groups to try to create food supplies that are fresh, affordable and sustainable.

Simon's background includes a variety of environmental jobs including community food projects, nature reserve management and air quality consultancy and he has a degree in Environmental Science from Manchester Metropolitan University.

“I'm really pleased to have the opportunity to work on the Herbie project. Food is such an important issue in our society today and the provision of fresh fruit and vegetables to everyone is a great starting point to move towards the social and environmental changes that MERCi strives for.”
